The WP-002 Sidesword Light model by HF-Armory is a modern interpretation of the Renaissance side-sword, designed specifically for historical fencing practice and HEMA tournaments. This model is maximally optimized for the rules of most historical fencing tournaments.

The side-sword was a popular weapon in northern Italy (not only in Bologna) during the 16th and 17th centuries. It represents the next stage of sword evolution, used not only in war but also in peacetime as a means of self-defense and part of attire.

Special features of the side-sword:

• Very short handle, the weapon is held by the overguard, making it difficult to grip in the usual way.
• Quite large and heavy pommel for better balance.
• Complicated hilt with rings for finger protection at the overguard grip. However, "cup" type hilts, common in Spanish rapiers, were not used in side-swords.
• Quite short blade suitable for both thrusts and strikes.
• Quite small weight.

The light version of the Bolognese side-sword by HF-Armory is a modern stylization of the medieval Bolognese side-sword for historical fencing practice and tournaments.

• Blade material – 60s2a high-carbon spring steel hardened up to 51-53 HRC
• Diamond-shaped blade with a safe tip. Flexible in the last third.
